Burges Salmon facilitates strategic partnership for floating offshore wind farm development
The law firm has played a pivotal role in advising ESB, a leading Irish renewable energy developer, on its strategic partnership with EDF Renewables UK and Reventus Power
The partnership aims to develop the Gwynt Glas Floating Offshore Wind Farm in the Celtic Sea, maximising clean energy opportunities in the region.
Under the partnership agreement, each entity will hold a 33.33% share in the Gwynt Glas project, demonstrating a collaborative effort to capitalise on the vast potential of floating offshore wind energy. Together, they are poised to participate in The Crown Estate’s Leasing Round 5, signaling their commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions.
The Gwynt Glas Floating Offshore Wind Farm project represents a significant step towards boosting clean energy generation while fostering regional economic growth. With a projected capacity of up to 1.5GW, it has the potential to power approximately 920,000 homes, contributing significantly to the UK's renewable energy targets.
Burges Salmon's Energy and Corporate teams, led by Malcolm Donald and Niall Mackle, played a crucial role in facilitating the partnership. Supported by James Phillips from the Projects team, they provided comprehensive legal counsel to ESB throughout the transaction process. Additionally, Chris Worrall, Shachi Nathdwarawala, and Sandra Mapara offered expertise on the competition law aspects of the deal, ensuring regulatory compliance and smooth execution.
